Medical Sat Sangha - A write up
Did Sri Ramakrishna consider his doctors as his Gurus ? Or as his Upa-Gurus, if you like.
He did consider Mahapurush Mj.s' father in such a light, I believe. Holy Mother used to ask Radhu to salute the visiting Vaidhyas. Vaidhyo Narayana can also be taken to mean that Doctors are Narayana in human form.
Can you pick and choose your doctor ? For the medicines to work properly for me I strongly feel I have to have trust & faith in my doctor. So how can I get a doctor whom I can trust ?
If I am a quack I will trust a quack doctor. If I am intelligently alert to my bodily health I will get a qualified doctor.
What about a qualified but unethical doctor ? A doctor who over-prescribes ? Or a doctor who is over cautious because the patient is a VIP or VVIP ?

It is a great blessing not to have a big health issue at sixty and it is a greater blessing to have any budding issues detected in the bud so that it could be promptly nipped. And if is the greatest blessing when the right, well qualified and very upright doctor happens to you at the right time. For that to happen, I suppose you need to be going about your life in a simple, measured way with no big airs about you and with a commonsense trust in the goodness of God's scheme of things.
My life, I suppose, is going Okay, since I find that such doctors keep happening to me. Going back as much as I could, I recall with thanks Dr. Sharma of Chandigarh PGI. He prescribed at the right time a miniscule dosage of a tablet which resulted in largely relieving me of my monthly Migraine attacks. Then I recall our Neurologist HOD in Sevapratishtan who stopped this medicine after two years which nipped in the bud a protein problem in my kidneys. Then I recall our great Doctor Pradeep Chakraborty of medicine dept. in Sevapratishtan who prescribed a tiny dose of a tablet for a minor heart condition. I am continuing it in a slightly increased dosage and all knowledgeable people say I am doing fine.
I salute the good Dr. PC and hope to have his darshan sometime again.
The latest to happen in this line is Dr. Diwakar, Cardiologist in our Vrindavan Ramakrishna Mission Hospital. With great authority and after due examination he cancelled the heart-attack which I was diagnosed with by another doctor earlier and put me off the strong heart medicines I was taking for about a fortnight. I am looking forward to having his darshan tomorrow.

So I am thankful to God that though in some other ways He is playing tough with me and makes me fight hard in reply, in some crucial ways like this matter of my health He plays with soft hands.
I don't think it is Him, though. I think it is my Mother Sarada who ties His hands this way.
Jai Ma Jai Ma ! Durga Durga !
